Pupils create a little bit of Wigan history

A Wigan schoolgirl has created her own piece of town history – by naming one of the new modern apartment blocks at Belong Wigan.
Honeysuckle Court was the name chosen by Amy Westwell, a Year 6 pupil at Abram CofE Primary School, who won our competition to find the best name. A fellow pupil, Anton Fishwick, was judged to have provided the best drawing of the new development.
Village residents selected Jasmine Court as the name for the second block of ultra-modern apartments which form the £4.5 million project.
The idea for a competition to find a name came when teacher Janet Houlden was visiting her mother, Mrs Katie Pickering, who has been a resident in the village for two years. The school is just a 10-minute walk away from the village in Platt Bridge.
General Manager Gill Menguy said we were delighted with the two names. “When the buildings are a bit further on we will look at planting some honeysuckle and jasmine as part of the gardens”, she said.
