Residents from Belong Crewe Cycle 75 Miles for Comic Relief!

26/03/2013

Guests visiting Belong Crewe over the past week will have been greeted with an unusual sight, as residents, staff and members of the local community volunteered their time – and energy - to take part in a static cycle relay in the village reception, to raise money for Comic Relief. As spectators offered words of encouragement, the volunteers donned the infamous ‘red nose’ to take part in the relay, which raised over £50 for the charitable organisation.
Collectively, the volunteers travelled 75 miles in one week, cycling two and a half hours per day on exercise bikes from the village’s Exercise Studio.
The cycle relay was part of Belong Crewe’s ongoing commitment to improving residents’ health and wellbeing, through supporting a more active lifestyle. The village exercise studio, which is open to members of the local community, gives residents the opportunity to enjoy regular exercise, helping them decrease stiffness and pain, lower blood pressure, and improve memory and mood.
General Manager at Belong Crewe, Mel Saywell, was delighted with the success of the event. She said: “The cycle relay was a real team effort from everyone involved. The residents had a wonderful time supporting each other and everyone really rose to the challenge. It was great to see so many members of the community getting involved too; we couldn’t have met our target of 70 miles without them.”
