On Christmas Eve at 11:30am, Belong Crewe, on Brookhouse Drive, will be holding a service at the care village's Tree of Light, to commemorate and celebrate the lives of lost loved ones. Throughout the month of December customers of Belong Crewe, their families and members of the local community are invited to make a donation to buy a star on which they can write a message to the people that they miss, to hang on the Tree of Light in preparation for the service.
The recent popularity of the Tree of Light in Crewe can be traced to ceremonies held in Crewe Cemetery, which have been recognised as fulfilling an important role for the local community.
Melanie Saywell, General Manager at Belong Crewe, said: "Christmas is a time for families and cherishing the relationships and bonds that we build with one another, which also makes it a time for remembering the loved ones that can't be with us to celebrate."
Christmas celebrations for residents at Belong Crewe have included performances from Berkley Primary School and the Dingle Primary School Band, as well as Winter Flower Arranging, a variety show and pantomime, and the Belong Crewe Christmas Market.
The Christmas Market was a big hit with local families, who enjoyed visiting Santa's travelling grotto, a bright red double-decker bus from St Luke's Hospice. Music was provided by the Sandbach and District U3A Brass Band, with Christmas refreshments available from Beer Dock, other local stallholders and the Belong Crewe Bistro. Cracker-making workshops and sessions to personalise Christmas decorations were also held in the village for children.
