Christine Baines, from Tyldesley, who works at Belong Atherton, has won the West Cheshire College Student of the Year Award in Cleaning and Support Services at the 2015 West Cheshire College Awards. Nominated by her tutors as an exceptional student, for showing dedication, commitment and hard-work in striving to achieve her goals, Christine was presented her award by Olympic athlete Colin Jackson in a lavish ceremony at the college's Ellesmere Port Campus.
Christine, 47, has worked at Belong Atherton, for the past two years as a Housekeeping Assistant. She won the award based on her work towards a Diploma Level 2 in Cleaning and Support Services, which she completed as part of her continuing professional development.
Christine said: "It was such a surprise to me when one of my teachers told me that I'd won an award. The ceremony was brilliant, we had a lovely night out and it made me feel like my work is really valued."
Phil Orton, Head of People for Belong, said: "The dedication and hard work of all the staff at Belong Atherton enables us to offer exceptional levels of care to our customers and I wasn't surprised that the college would single Christine out to celebrate her achievements. We give all of the Belong Atherton staff opportunities to train on the job and learn new skills and achieve formal qualifications, because it is our people that help us to create such an inclusive community for customers, residents and their families."
Belong Atherton was recently inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which awarded the care village with an overall rating of 'Good' and a rating of 'Outstanding' as a 'well-led' care provider. The inspection was completed under the new CQC rating regime, which is designed to ensure greater transparency for people choosing a care home.
