Residents and their families at Belong Crewe, on Brookhouse Drive, celebrated Dignity Action Day in style this year, with a nostalgic 1950s themed party. Staff at the village dressed in their best outfits and the Bistro was transformed into a 50s American diner, serving hot dogs, burgers and milkshakes.
The party was completed with dancing and a name-that-famous-tune competition, while people living in the village had a competition to design themed boards representing what the 50s had meant to them. Duke Household was chosen as the winner, for their painting of fast cars, jukeboxes and vibrant Americana.
Ray Knott, who lives in Belong Crewe, said: "We're never short of activities here, but even so, it isn't often that you wake up to find everybody dressed like the cast of Grease! It was a great day, I can't wait to find out what we'll do next."
Melanie Saywell, Belong Crewe General Manager, said: "It was wonderful to see so many of our customers reminiscing and getting into the spirit of things during the party. Dignity Action Day was founded to highlight everybody's right to dignity and to provide a memorable day for people receiving care. What better way to celebrate than by letting our hair down and throwing a party?"
Dignity Action Day, which is supported by the National Dignity Council, aims to ensure people who use care services are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives.
