Residents and staff members from Belong Atherton, marched in the annual town Remembrance Day parade, to honour fallen soldiers and veterans of the World Wars.
The group from Belong met with members of the community, including representatives from the Salvation Army and local churches. Together, they proudly marched through Atherton town centre to the cenotaph, where a two-minute silence was held and wreaths were laid.
Earlier in the week, residents had begun commemorating the day by taking part in a craft session to create poppies to decorate Belong Atherton’s households and lay at the cenotaph.
A coffee morning was also held at the Belong village after the march and the national parade was screened, to allow all residents to commemorate the day and share their own war-time stories with each other.
Belong Atherton experience coordinator, Gemma Willetts, said: “It was an honour to be a part of Atherton’s Remembrance Day service. Residents were pleased to have had the opportunity to pay their respects to veterans by marching in the parade or by coming together at our coffee morning.”
