Belong Warrington residents live life in the fast lane at classic car show

Residents at Belong Warrington, have stepped it up a gear at a 1950s classic car show, which featured eight iconic cars including a Triumph, Ford and Pontiac that had been driven to the village by owners from across the country.

Residents, many of whom were joined by relatives, enjoyed looking at the old-time cars and learning about the individual features of each vehicle, all of which were made in the 1950s. Together with the owners, residents shared memories about their first cars and discussed the ways in which vehicles have changed over the years.

By evoking memories, the vintage cars acted as a form of reminiscence therapy that has been shown to be particularly beneficial for people living with dementia, stimulating cognitive ability as well as being therapeutic.

Lisa Wilson, experience co-ordinator at Belong Warrington, said: “Everyone had a wonderful time at our classic car show! It was lovely that the event prompted residents to remember cars that they used to own and it was really interesting to learn all about the vehicles that we had on display. We are very grateful to all eight owners for joining us at the village with their fabulous cars!”
