Residents at community village, Belong Wigan, recently enjoyed a charity auction night to raise money for the residents activity fund thanks to generous donations from local sporting heroes. Memorabilia donated by the Wigan Warriors was auctioned to the highest bidder, along with stylish clothes, framed artwork and decorative ornaments.
A signed photo of Captain Shaun O’Laughlan from the Wigan Warriors was sold for £25, as well as a framed caricature of Lancashire County Cricket Club legend Freddie Flintoff, which was very popular with the sporting fanatics among residents.
Stylish clothing donated by members of the local community was up for grabs for the ladies, which were beautifully modelled by volunteer residents and staff from the village. Guests took the opportunity to browse fashion items and jewellery before thrashing it out in the auction hall.
Experience day co-ordinator at Belong Wigan, Claire Culshaw, said the event had been a huge success: “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the auction, and we raised enough money to fund lots of activities over the festive period. It was a great social event, both for residents and members of the local community.”
