Hannah Davis, 19, and Rachael Statham, 20, organised a Bush Tucker Trial at Belong Macclesfield, on Kennedy Avenue, where they invited staff, residents and visitors at the village to eat a range of extreme 'jungle' foods, to raise money for Children in Need. Macclesfield MP, David Rutley, took part in the challenge, which included eating scorpions, worms, heart, lungs, squid and beetles.
Organisers Hannah and Rachael, who both live in Macclesfield and work together at Holly House, in Belong Macclesfield, got the idea for the trial from watching I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! Their colleagues at Holly House also baked cakes and ran a tombola as part of the event. Once all the donations are counted they expect to have raised over £1000 for Children in Need.
Caroline Ray, Belong Macclesfield General Manager, said: "When Hannah and Rachael told us that they wanted to do something new for Children in Need this year, we had no idea that it would be such an ordeal. Thanks to everybody that participated and donated to such an important cause, and thanks particularly to MP David Rutley for his show of support."
All exotic foods consumed in the Belong Macclesfield Bush Tucker trial were either responsibly sourced from overseas or prepared safely by local butchers.
