It was a historic moment when Belong Warrington customers, staff and relatives joined together to bury a treasure-filled time capsule and enjoy a slice of birthday cake in celebration of one-year since the community care village on Loushers Lane first opened.
With a helping hand from Alicia White, representing the Warrington 1st division Brownies; the capsule was packed with staff and residents’ old photographs and mementoes, as well as objects significant to 2015, such as pictures of Queen Elizabeth II, now Britain’s longest serving monarch. The Brownies also donated their unit badge, Dementia Friends badge and poems about what a Belong village stands for.
Everyone then gathered in Belong Warrington’s award-winning sensory garden for a short ceremony, to toast the village and help bury the capsule, which will not be unearthed until 2040. Afterwards, a party was held in the village bistro, where Belong Warrington General Manager, Janine Curwell, gave a speech. Looking back over the last twelve months, she commented: “It feels like only yesterday that we first opened our doors, yet the strong sense of community and vibrant village life we have here is remarkable.
“Everyone seems to get along very well and we were delighted to receive 100% overall satisfaction in our recent Customer Feedback Survey. Thanks to the carefully planned mix of services, facilities and staff, we look forward to continuing to offer a home for life for years to come.”
An enthusiastic round of ‘Happy Birthday’ then followed, before everyone tucked into a special slice of Belong birthday cake, cut by the village’s first ever resident, 90-year-old Janet Huxley-Jones, and her daughter Bronwyn Kelly. The occasion was brought to a memorable close with singing, dancing and entertainment provided Sandra Currie, playing a winning selection of old-time classics.
