Mother and daughter run therapy suite to ‘give back’ to Belong Atherton

Mother and daughter duo, Janine and Lucy Sproston, have taken over the running of the therapy suite at Belong Atherton in a bid to give something back to the village where Janine’s mother was cared for towards the end of her life.
The salon, opened under the name Bespoke Beauty, opened its doors in December 2015 and specialises in offering bespoke, accessible services that can be tailored to individual needs. Janine, who has over 26 years of experience in the industry and is currently working towards a Spa Management degree at Wigan and Leigh College, had been running her own business for five years with the help of daughter Lucy, 18, before making the decision to move to Belong Atherton. When the space became available, the pair jumped at the chance.
Speaking about the move, Janine commented: “Towards the end of her life, my mother moved into Belong Atherton and the care she received from the staff was outstanding. We are truly grateful for their support, and running the therapy suites gives us the opportunity to give something back - all of the proceeds from our Thursday treatments go straight back to the village funds, so that they have the means to do for somebody else what they did for my mum.”
A wide variety of hair, beauty and therapy treatments are available both to residents at Belong and members of the public. These include hair and makeup services, nail treatments and holistic therapies such as massages. All services are designed to cater to individual requirements and abilities, and residents at the village can opt to have the services carried out in their room.
Janine added: “Lucy has been helping me since she was 13, so she knows exactly what she’s doing. Between us, we cover almost every treatment out there; I specialise in massages, and have been trained in massage styles from around the world, whereas Lucy provides a younger perspective and helps us to make sure that we’re offering a range of cutting edge treatments for clients of all ages. It’s lovely to work with Lucy because I know I have a partner who I can trust – although she definitely keeps me on my toes!”
Gemma Willetts, Experience Co-ordinator at Belong Atherton, added: “We’re delighted to have Janine and Lucy here at Belong Atherton. The services they provide are perfect for our customers, because many require much more specialised and tailored treatments than most salons offer. It is also great to see people from the local community coming into the village and using the facilities; everybody is welcome at Belong, and we hope this will encourage people in the community to visit more often.”
