Belong Wigan celebrates its ten-year anniversary with a ringing endorsement from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an unannounced inspection. In a glowing report, CQC inspectors awarded the service the highest rating of ‘Outstanding’, with the village scoring four ‘Outstandings’ in the categories of Caring, Responsive, Effective and Well-led, with a ‘Good’ in the Safe category.
The result of the inspection makes the village Belong’s third site in the North West to hold the stellar rating and places it amongst only 2% of nursing homes in the country to achieve ‘Outstanding’ status.
In the same week, Belong Wigan was also awarded a place in the Top 20 care homes in the North West, based on effusive customer reviews on the ‘Tripadvisor’ styled website, carehome.co.uk, where the village holds a 9.9 out of 10 rating.
Gill Menguy, general manager at Belong Wigan, commented: “We are so delighted and proud to receive this recognition from customers and from the Care Quality Commission. At Belong, we work extremely hard to promote the highest standards of wellbeing and quality of life and the CQC report truly is testament to that. I am immensely proud of the village and all of the team, who thoroughly deserve this recognition for the outstanding work they do.”
The CQC report applauded the village for its strong commitment to driving quality and its “person-centred approach” to care, with inspectors observing personalised care plans, an extensive activities schedule and far-reaching links to the wider community, designed to encourage the independence and autonomy of residents. This included Belong’s individually tailored end of life care, which has recently been awarded ‘Platinum’ status by the Gold Standards Framework (GSF).
Much commendation was reserved for the care village’s management and staff, who were praised for their motivated, passionate and enthusiastic nature, excellent communication skills and commitment to improving and enhancing the social, mental and physical wellbeing of those they supported. All residents spoken with said staff went above and beyond to help them, highlighted in the “exceptional quality of care they received”.
Inspectors also complimented the village on its welcoming, warm and spacious character, mentioning the fantastic array of facilities on offer to the wider community, such as the gym, therapy suite and Bistro.
As well as providing 24-hour support in its households, Belong Wigan includes a vibrant village centre with amenities open to the public and a complex of spacious, modern apartments, which are available to rent or purchase for those who wish to live in the village independently.
Local people are also able to access the village’s bespoke day care service and its registered Belong at Home domiciliary service, both of which specialise in supporting people with dementia.
