How did you first get into the care sector?
I have always worked in commercial catering and, as I live locally, I was aware that Belong Atherton was being built. I saw an advert for the position as cook and I applied and got the job and have since worked my way up to catering manager.
What’s your favourite aspect of the job?
I really love the customer satisfaction element of this job – it’s great to see customers enjoying the food that we prepare each meal time and at special events and parties. The customers are very appreciative of the work that we do and that makes my job very rewarding.
What are its hidden challenges?
The most difficult thing about my job is coordinating all the different aspects of catering for the Belong village. I have a team in the Bistro and various hosts in the kitchens on each household, so it’s very important that we work as a team and communicate with each other every day.
What makes working for Belong unique?
Belong Atherton is definitely a unique place to work. The local community in Atherton has really embraced the ethos and concept of Belong and has thrived since the village has been built. We have a lot of members of the community visiting the village and eating in the Bistro each day and they definitely bring a wonderful, family feel.
What’s your favourite way to relax after a long day (or night) at work?
I love to spend time with my family and walk my dog. I have three sons who all play rugby – one of them has a scholarship with Salford Red Devils Rugby Club, so I spend a lot of time watching them all play rugby.
