Why did you decide to take up a job in the care sector?
Twenty years ago, I had three young daughters, so I wanted a job that was going to be flexible as well as fulfilling. I began my career as a community carer, providing domiciliary care for older people, and I’ve worked in home care ever since.
What are the most enjoyable parts of this job?
Working across multiple sites whilst getting to meet customers face-to-face again and see the effect that the care has. It’s rewarding to see customers in their homes at the villages as well as out and about around the bistros and venues.
What are the most challenging aspect of this job?
There are lots of processes and policies to learn about to ensure that Belong’s values are upheld in everything we do. Everyone who works at Belong is very friendly and helpful though, so it makes everything easier. I’ve already been made to feel very welcome.
What do you think makes working for Belong unique?
It’s the culture and values that run through the whole organisation in every service we offer. People can come and have their hair done and there will be the same emphasis placed on the individual as there will be for someone requiring 24-hour care. I’ve not seen that anywhere else.
What’s your favourite way to relax after long day (or night) at work?
I like to spend time with my family when I’m not working. I have seven grandchildren, and six of them live a stone’s throw away from me, so I’m never on my own. I also enjoy a glass of wine!
