Your Household

An inviting environment

There are 72 suites in Belong Macclesfield, arranged in six households, with each household containing 11 - 13 suites; this ensures customers live in a relatively small, homely environment; in addition, there is a guest suite which is used for respite stays.

Each suite consists of a bedroom with an en-suite, including a walk in shower, and beds are three-quarter size rather than single, to promote residents’ comfort; nursing beds are available if needed.

Typically there are two to three team members on shift at any one time on each household (supporting up to 13 customers); the exact number varies according to the time of day and a needs assessment. In addition, there is always at least one nurse on-site, day or night.

24-hour nursing care

All household support teams are trained in meeting the needs of people with dementia and the village nurse team provide oversight across the whole village to ensure continuity of care for those with nursing needs.

Somewhat akin to a district nursing role, this fluid approach ensures that care can always be provided to the resident in situ, without requiring them to ‘move’ around the village if their needs change.

Modern, open plan layouts

At the heart of the household is an open plan hub with kitchen, dining and lounge areas for residents’ enjoyment. The open plan layout means there is line of sight to all facilities including bedrooms, to reduce the reliance on memory for navigation and thus maximise independence.

Households and modern and stylish, with contemporary dementia-friendly design. There are a range of resources around the household to stimulate conversation and opportunities for spontaneous activity.

Appetising

Meals are served from the household kitchen meaning that residents have the homely experience of seeing and smelling meals being prepared around them. Enjoying the aroma of freshly cooked food helps signal approaching mealtimes and helps ensure residents are able to enjoy regular tasty and nutritious meals.

Residents are also able to join in meal preparation, baking or setting tables if they wish, and they have the option of dining in their private suite or in the bistro as an alternative to the taking meals in the household dining room.

The outdoors

Belong Macclesfield has a dementia-friendly garden, where residents can relax outdoors, indulge in a spot of gardening or enjoy garden entertainment and barbecues, weather permitting.

In addition to the main garden, residents on upper floors have access to spacious balconies to ensure continuous, secure and independent access to the outdoors. Colleagues will support those who need assistance to venture outdoors to do so.
