Visitors from the Belong Atherton were in for a treat when Year 10 students from Fred Longworth High School invited them round for a fine dining experience.
The students, who have been practising their cookery skills as part of a Prince’s Trust xl club award, enjoyed the chance to demonstrate what they’d learned, to an appreciative audience.
The meal, which was cooked and served by Year 10 students, included homemade lemonade, fish and chips served in newspaper cones, and the traditional dessert of Spotted Dick and custard.
Belong resident, Elsie Gerrard, said of the experience: ”It’s so nice for people to do something so kind for us, especially local young people.” Nellie Williams responded similarly: “Everything was lovely, including the food and service. I really enjoyed our visit to the school, it was smashing.”
Nicola Beaver, Activities Facilitator at Belong Atherton, said: “The best part for me was seeing our customers and the students mixing. Hearing two generations laughing about their school days as they traded stories was a real high point for me. We were overwhelmed by the effort that the students had gone to, and felt very welcome. The students were a credit to their school, and we’re already planning ways to work together again in future.”
