Community was at the heart of the event when Belong Morris Feinmann, hosted its first intergenerational ‘Tea and Tales’ session in collaboration with PJ Library, a not-for-profit organisation specialising in Jewish books for children, which saw residents and their grandchildren share stories together in celebration of Rosh Hashanah.
Local families and children from North Cheshire Jewish Primary School also attended to enjoy an afternoon filled with storytelling, song and dance. Featuring a pop up library of award-winning PJ books, guests read and listened to an array of different stories celebrating Jewish culture and values, all over a slice of traditional Honey Cake. The theme of the day was the special relationship between grandchildren and their grandparents, and Belong residents delighted in translating for the younger generations the Yiddish words in the literature.
Speaking of the event, Belong Morris Feinmann’s experience coordinator, Angela Luckett, said: “The ‘Tea and Tales’ event was a wonderful way to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and the culture of our Jewish residents. The intergenerational activity was thoroughly enjoyed by all those involved and we look forward to working with PJ Library again in the future.”
Anna Roth, the northern fieldworker for PJ Library, added: “Stories are something we can share and enjoy at any age, and it was so lovely to see this in action at Belong Morris Feinmann. The village really embraced the event and I was trilled to see so many residents, families and members of the local community there on the day.”
Belong Morris Feinmann also hosts monthly intergenerational ‘Morris Minors’ sessions at the village, which welcome mums and their babies to bond and share stories with residents. The next event will take place Tuesday 26th November, if you would like to take part please contact the village on: 0161 804 4200.
