Colleagues at Belong Wigan are celebrating after being named as national finalists across three categories in the Palliative and End of Life Care Awards 2026.
The team at Willow House, one of the village’s households for people requiring 24-hour care, has been shortlisted for The Palliative Care Team Award for Residential and Nursing Homes (Not for Profit) for its commitment to compassionate, high-quality care.
Nicola Davies, Team Senior Lead at the Platt Bridge-based village, is a finalist for the End of Life Care Excellence Award.
The national recognition follows a string of local awards successes for the village, which holds a perfect 10 out of 10 score on independent review site Carehome.co.uk and Gold Standards Framework (GSF) accreditation for end-of-life care.
Speaking of the shortlistings, Gill Menguy, General Manager at Belong Wigan, said: "Recognition on a national scale across three separate categories is an incredible achievement for our entire Wigan community. End-of-life care requires an immense amount of clinical excellence, empathy, and emotional strength, strengths which our teams have in spades. They support residents and their loved ones in comfort during life’s most difficult moments, and these finalist shortlistings are thoroughly deserved."
Organised by Care Talk magazine, the Palliative and End of Life Care Awards celebrate excellence across the social care sector, highlighting the individuals and teams who go the extra mile to preserve dignity and improve quality of life for those with life-limiting conditions.
Belong supports older people through its modern care village model, offering specialist dementia care, 24-hour nursing support, and independent living apartments, all centered around a vibrant village hub that is open to the public.
Belong at Home provides customers with trained and caring community support workers to assist with any customer needs, including one-to-one personal care, housekeeping, such as cleaning, food preparation and running errands, as well as companionship and support to enable greater wellbeing. This includes excursions outside the home and exercise initiatives.
The finalists will find out if they have clinched the top prize at a glittering gala awards ceremony at the Hilton Bankside in London on 2 July.
