Marjorie Celebrates 102 with Special Recognition

Warrington’s Marjorie Goodwin has celebrated turning 102 years young with a special commemoration of her service during WWII.

Surrounded by family and friends at her home in Belong Warrington, the birthday girl welcomed representatives of Grappenhall and Thelwall Royal British Legion (GTRBL) for the presentation of a medal and the HM Armed Forces Veterans’ Badge, followed by cake and the sharing of stories from her wartime years.

As a young woman, Marjorie proudly served the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), the women’s branch of the British Army during WWII, which would later merge into the Women’s Royal Army Corps (WRAC). Stationed in Cambridge, she worked on railway platforms where it was her duty to organise regiments in collecting vital supplies delivered by train.

Louise Kelly, experience coordinator at Belong Warrington, said: “It was a privilege to be part of such a meaningful occasion and honour Marjorie’s remarkable contribution to our country’s history. We are incredibly proud to have her as part of our Belong Warrington family.”
