Ready Generations

Intergenerational Living

The Nursery is already transforming lives for the better, with intergenerational living contributing to reduced anxiety, and relatives reporting that being around children means people with dementia are less agitated. Residents who initially said the nursery was a lovely idea, but not for them, are now enthusiastic attendees at intergenerational events.

Daily engagement

Colleagues report that daily engagement with children’s care gives a renewed sense of purpose. This manifests in greater motivation to engage in physical activity, including walking further when they go ‘prambling’ (taking little ones out in their prams, with colleagues) and taking part in dance and movement sessions.

Learning through storytelling

By supporting the children’s learning through storytelling, reading, sharing memories and teaching simple skills, there is improved cognitive functioning and mental well-being. Residents are turning into educators and there has been notable reductions in isolation and loneliness.
