Surprise Races Day Boost for Phil

A day at the motorbike races proved to be the surprise of a lifetime for Warringtonian, Phil Warburton, as the self-confessed petrolhead met his racing idols on a special day at the circuit arranged by his carers at, Belong Warrington.

After cheering from the Oulton Park stands, the former carpenter enjoyed a personal meet-and-greet with superbike riders Glenn Irwin, Blaze Baker, and reigning British Superbike Championship (BSB) champion, Kyle Ryde.

Speaking of the occasion, Phil, 78, said, “I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was a lovely surprise and I’m really grateful to the Belong team and everyone involved for making it happen for me.”

The trip was devised by Belong Warrington administrator, Margo Partington, and support worker Hazel Henshaw, who made all the necessary arrangements to accompany Phil on the 30-mile round trip from the Loushers Lane care village to mid-Cheshire.

Providing more detail, Margo said: “Phil and I have a shared love of motorbike racing – we're always catching up over upcoming events and who is top of the leaderboard. He’s been a bit unwell recently and we wanted to do something to give him a boost, so I reached out to the venue to see if they could help and the result was an unforgettable day.”

A motorbike fanatic from a young age, at just 16, Phil procured his pride and joy, his very own gold Ducati 200 – now considered to be a vintage classic. His fondness of the sport stems from the excitement of its fast-paced nature, the dazzling daredevil moves of its racers, and the camaraderie culture that comes from watching alongside fellow enthusiasts.

Two cherries on the top of the day came in the form of a special jacket gifted to Phil by the racers, and a Kyle Ryde-signed picture, purchased for him by a fellow fan.

Hazel added: “We’re pleased to be able to organise experiences like this for our wonderful customers. For Phil to be able to enjoy something he loves, meet his idols, and even make new friends, these are moments that mean so much to him, and he‘s not stopped wearing his new jacket! A huge thank you to everyone who made Phil’s day one he’ll cherish.”
